Electric Bus Fleets Growing In Europe  

Green buses: Fifth London garage joins electric bus revolution

Plans to decarbonise London's bus fleet are continuing apace, after it was confirmed Shepherds Bush has become the fifth bus garage in the capital to install a bank of electric bus charging units. UK Power Networks announced late last week it has completed work at the Sulgrave Road site to enable 36 new electric buses to charge overnight. Overall, Transport for London is aiming to have 240 electric buses running on the network by the end of next year and for all new double-decker buses to be zero-emissions or hybrid. Every single-decker bus operating in central London is expected to be zero-emission by the following year.
 

Mercedes-Benz Delivers 1st eCitaro Electric Bus To Hamburger Hochbahn

Mercedes-Benz delivered its firss all-electric bus, the eCitaro, to Hamburger Hochbahn, which earlier this year placed an order for 20 units (the biggest single order for EV buses in Germany). Hamburger Hochbahn intends to purchase only zero-emission buses from 2020, which means that there are 1,000 diesel buses to replace in the city alone.

Electric bus orders in Europe more than doubled to 1,031 units in 2017; ~9% share of new registrations

The number of battery-electric buses ordered in Europe more than doubled in 2017 compared to 2016, reaching 1,031 vehicles, according to a new analysis by environmental NGO Transport & Environment. T&E estimates this to be equivalent to around 9% market share of new registrations in 2018.
There are currently about 1,600 electric buses are on European roads, with another 1,600 on order (as of mid-2018). The lag between orders and deliveries is usually 9-12 months; T&E expects all these electric buses to be on the road by mid-2019.
 

Electric And Windpowered Ships Are Coming

Large ‘Tesla ships’ all-electric container barges are launching this autumn

The Dutch company Port-Liner is building two giant all-electric barges dubbed the ‘Tesla ships‘. The company announced that the vessels will be ready by this autumn and will be inaugurated by sailing the Wilhelmina canal in the Netherlands.
 

Ultrabulk exploring sails for dry bulk ships

Ultrabulk is part of a new study to determine whether sail technology can be used to propel dry bulk ships in the future. "We have to take an active part in developing new technology in order to meet the IMO's targets," CEO Per Lange tells ShippingWatch.
